شاید بتوان گفت یکی از محبوبترین ترانه ها برای چندین دهه هتل کالیفرنیا از گروه ایگلز است که در ایران هم محبوبیت بسیار زیادی دارد. اگر به شعر آن توجه کرده باشید قطعا متوجه متن مرموز و بنوعی معما گونه آن میشوید. رازآلود بودن ترانه ها و اشعار راک دهه هفتاد را بخوبی می توان در این ترانه دریافت. این ترانه ای بود که گروه ایگلز در سال 1977 یعنی شش سال پس از پیدایش خود خواند و روانه بازار کرد. گروه را دان فلدر، دان هنلی و گلن فری پدید آوردند. تا امروز این ترانه هوادارانش را از دست نداده و در زمره جاودانه های موسیقی جهان قرار دارد.جالب است بدانید که آلبوم هتل کالیفرنیا هشت هفته عنوان پر فروشترین آلبوم را داشت و سه آهنگ "هتل کالیفرنیا " و " بچه جدید در شهر " و "دسپرادو" این گروه هم به عنوان آهنگهای برتر در جهان شناخته شدند و جالب تر اینکه "هتل کالیفرنیا" با فروش 9 میلیون نسخه ای جزو پرفروش ترین های جهان هم قرار گرفته است. سروده « هتل کالیفرنیا» کمی پیچیده است،هم از دید واژگانی و هم از دید درون مایه. هر کس می تواند هر برداشتی از آن بکند و هرکس می تواند هرگونه بخواهد آن را به زبانی دیگر برگرداند
